Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be access for Emergency vehicles?

Yes - a priority for us and neighbors.

Will there be access for Sanitation?

Yes - they will be invited to roll through the plaza.

How will this affect residents on Monitor?

Much less traffic - solving a decades old problem of illegal cut through and illegal truck traffic.

How will this affect parents dropping kids off?

This will open over fifty feet of new loading zone on Driggs.

How will this affect delivery access?

Loading zone on Driggs for large trucks, cul-de-sac for others.

Can Monitor be a two-way street?

Yes, we’ve seen it work every day at pick-up and drop-off as cars and trucks move past double-parked cars. Now, however, there will be much less traffic. The only people using the block will be neighbors.

How did this plan come about?

This is a response to over two and a half years of outreach to - and hundreds of conversations with - school families, administration, neighbors, and local organizations and businesses.

Will it work?

We’ve employed tools from the NYCDOT toolkit, we’ve run our proposals through the same vehicle turn radius programs that the DOT uses. And it works. Of course, as with all DOT projects, City agencies (NYPD, FDNY, DSNY, etc) will have to sign off on anything before it is implemented.
